A huge congratulations to Eddie Smith who has won our annual Clubman of the year award.

Eddie’s proud dad is coach of the team but he was as surprised as Eddie about the nomination! This was a brilliant nomination put forward by the rest of the coaching team.

Eddie is not only a very classy footballer but has the attitude of a consummate professional.  His reading of the game is exceptional, his skill on the ball is of the very highest level and he just plays wherever he’s put on the pitch (frequently stuffed in at left back for the good of the team) and gets on with the job with no fuss.

We could say he’s our James Milner, but that would undersell him!! – he excels in everything he does; we would have him all over the pitch if we could.

At training, he’s a role-model, performs the drills with aplomb, helps the boys who are learning the skills and it’s difficult to remember an occasion when I’ve had to have words about horsing around (even when pretty much all the boys are horsing around!) – he’s a real pleasure to coach.

His job is made even harder by the fact that his dad is a coach, but his dad knows nothing about this nomination; indeed, his dad being a coach, has meant that he’s often given inglorious jobs to do and rarely gets the praise his performances deserve.  But Eddie’s never grumbled or shown any sign of suffering any of this, he just plays even better.

It’s hard to think of a more deserving winner.

Congratulations Eddie, thank you for representing the club so well.
